<p><a href="http://www.scifinow.co.uk/news/the-greatest-sci-fi-film-of-all-time-is-2/%20" target="_blank">SciFiNow has been running a poll</a> in recent months to discover the greatest sci-fi film of all time. With industry writers having whittled the list down to a top 10, the magazine has opened the final stages to the public to choose the best.</p>
<p>The nominations, in no particular order, are:</p>
<ul>
<li><a class="zem_slink" title="Alien (film)" rel="wikipedia" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alien_%28film%29">Alien</a> (1979 – <a class="zem_slink" title="Ridley Scott" rel="imdb" href="http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000631/">Ridley Scott</a>)</li>
<li>ET: The Extra Terrestrial (1982 – Steven Spielberg)</li>
<li><a class="zem_slink" title="2001: A Space Odyssey (film)" rel="rottentomatoes" href="http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/1000085-2001_a_space_odyssey/">2001: A Space Odyssey</a> (1968 – Stanley Kubrick)</li>
<li><a class="zem_slink" title="Planet of the Apes (1968 film)" rel="rottentomatoes" href="http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/1016397-planet_of_the_apes/">Planet Of The Apes</a> (1968 – Franklin J. Schaffner)</li>
<li><a class="zem_slink" title="Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope" rel="homepage" href="http://www.starwars.com/movies/episode-iv">Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope</a> (1977 – George Lucas)</li>
<li><a class="zem_slink" title="Blade Runner" rel="homepage" href="http://bladerunnerthemovie.warnerbros.com/">Blade Runner</a> (1982 – Ridley Scott)</li>
<li><a class="zem_slink" title="Terminator 2: Judgment Day" rel="wikipedia" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terminator_2%3A_Judgment_Day">Terminator 2: Judgement Day</a> (1991 – James Cameron)</li>
<li><a class="zem_slink" title="Forbidden Planet" rel="rottentomatoes" href="http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/forbidden_planet/">Forbidden Planet</a> (1956 – Fred M. Wilcox)</li>
<li><a class="zem_slink" title="Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back" rel="homepage" href="http://www.starwars.com/movies/episode-v">Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back</a> (1980 – Irvin Kershner)</li>
<li>The Matrix (1999 – The Wachowski Brothers)</li>
</ul>
<p>My own personal favourite, ‘The Day the Earth Stood Still’ – the 1951 original, not the <a class="zem_slink" title="Keanu Reeves" rel="imdb" href="http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000206/">Keanu Reeves</a> turkey – didn’t make the final cut. Was it even considered?</p>
<p>There are a few glaring omissions I would have classed above some of those which made the final ten.</p>
<p>Let us know your favourite sci-fi films in the comments, or your thoughts on the top ten list above! Or, to cast your vote in the poll, you can do so via <a href="mailto:scifinow@imagine-publishing.co.uk">email</a>, through the comments thread on the <a href="http://www.scifinow.co.uk/news/the-greatest-sci-fi-film-of-all-time-is-2/" target="_blank">SciFiNow website</a> or on <a href="http://www.scifinow.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=15&amp;t=2819" target="_blank">SciFiNow’s forum</a>.</p>
