Fox developing U.S. version of ‘Torchwood’

Torchwood, the BBC’s Doctor Who spinoff is to get a US version says TV Scoop.

The show, starring John Barrowman, will once again come from the pen of creator Russell T. Davies who recently handed the Doctor Who reins to Steven Moffatt and will be shown on the US’ Fox Network.

The Torchwood project will be one of the most high-profile to come from the new BBC Worldwide Productions drama team in the United States.

Torchwood has already been aired in the US on BBC America, and the new US version will likely feature storylines on a more global level and John Barrowman – the immortal Captain Jack Harkness in the series, is believed to feature in some of the episodes.

  • I´m not too excited about this, but I guess we´ll have to see it and then make up our minds up....
  • I'm concerned. These are the people that cancelled the Sarah Conner Chronicles and Dollhouse. If it's bad - we loose. If it's good - we loose?
  • I agree. Fox have previous for pulling shows based on ratings, regardless of whether its good or bad or has a loyal fanbase.

I'm not sure how RTD's vision for 'Torchwood USA' will pan out, given that the UK version is, for me at least, a bit camp and much of what he does in the UK version will likely not transfer over.

I think I'd prefer someone else at the helm if it is to stand a chance of surviving the Fox one-season scythe. That is providing it gets past the pilot stage.

I can see this turning into a poor 'Fringe' clone, only with aliens.
