3D for Underworld 4

The Vampire Selene

Would you be able to resist the temptations of 3D sexy vampires (think Rhona Mitra or Kate Beckinsale in a skin tight leathers) fighting werewolves?

Sony’s Screen Gems can’t. They’ve announced a fourth film in the successful Underworld franchise. We don’t know if the Underworld: Rise of the Lycans stars (Michael Sheen, Bill Nighy and Rhona Mitra) will feature or even if this is another prequel but we do know it’ll be in 3D.

ShockTillYouDrop was lucky enough to land this exclusive and a sampling of their posts’ comments gives us a good indication of the reaction to the announcement.

Viktor writes;

If Kate Beckensale comes back as Selene, I’m excited about it!

WiFi writes;

I bet the people who are tired of the 3D phase will have alot to say about this.
I didnt see the 3rd one yet, but I hope this one brings back Selene’s character. This could be cool.

Owlknight27 had this insight;

Hey Guys,
How is this for a movie.
We see the movie form Amelia’s point of view in America, with flashbacks from her past, and she vanquishes a evil in America and the ending see her taking her trip to Prague where she we all know is eventally killed.
Movies have been made about Selene, Marcus, Viktor, why not Amelia????
I think that would be a great movie

S.Thomas points out;

For the record, the only way Kate will be back is if they either abandon the prequels and move back to present day, or if they do a split time line where a lot of the film is in flash back or a history telling. I for one believe they may go after the latter, if they feel they need Selene, but either way the prequel idea may work at least one more time and regardless of whether they use Selene and the “flashback” format or just center it solely in the past, the era most likely will be around the time when the Death Dealers stormed Lucian’s castle. The dealings between Kraven and Lucian would make for interesting sidebars.

What’s with the movie industry’s fixation with 3D right now anyway? The answer may be in their attempts to defeat movie pirates. It’s much harder for people to pirate the 3D experience and even harder for TV audiences watching the pirate to get the 3D effects to work off their TV. By releasing a movie in 3D the studios give people extra reason to actually go to the cinema to watch it.
