WipEout HD in-game video ad pulled

The controversial in-game video ad which featured in the PlayStation 3’s WipEout HD has been removed. The ad was produced after an agreement between Double Fusion (the ad firm) and Sony but met with hostility from the player base of the download only game.
Sony took action after reports that the ad significantly slowed down the game. In particular players had to wait for the ads to roll before they were allowed to start playing the game.
Sony told Eurogamer, “The ad has been removed from WipEout HD and we are investigating the situation to ensure that any in-game advertising does not affect gameplay,” said a spokesperson for the platform holder.”
Eurogamer reporter Robert Puchese highlights this homemade comparison of the game play with and without the ad. The YouTube video (which rather strangely has disabled embeds) has had over 7,000 views since it was uploaded at the start of the month.
