EA Lust – too sexy for Comic Con?

EA’s Comic Con promotion is a bold one that’s backfiring. The pitch is this: photograph yourself in an act of lust with one of their booth babes and you’ll win dinner with her. In fact, EA’s poster says “Dinner, booty and more”.
I’m all for sexing up Comic Con (even though I’m not there) but I did wonder whether this was a step too far. I go to a lot of expos and always feel sorry for the booth babes. I really hope EA isn’t encouraging people to be inappropriately bold with these girls.
Over at Ars Technica Ben Kuchera spells it out plainly for us;
I can’t imagine what it’s like to be a booth babe, especially not at a show like Comic Con. You’re being pawed at by huge amounts of sweaty geeks, you have to smile and be pleasant to people who may or may not have showered… it always seems like a hellish existence. What doesn’t help? Having your employer offer a bounty if people sexually harass you.
Stephany Nunneley of VG247 chimes in with;
Apparently, EA is taking misogyny to a new level at Comic-Con this year, basically begging people to sexually harass the booth babes.
They’re also trying to promote a game here but no one seems to be focusing on that. What do you think? Sexy or stupid? It’s certainly become one of the most talked about stories from Comic Con today and if all the booth babes have been forewarned perhaps they feel more than confident in handling themselves.
